Empower yourself with new multimedia skills in writing, cell phone photography and video, and on-camera presentation at this hands-on workshop taught by veteran journalist Andrea McCarren. Whether you want to build your personal or professional brand, or simply shoot better home movies, this is the class for you! Learn how to share your material effectively via social media platforms and build your following. All you need to bring to this half-day bootcamp is a smart phone, lunch or snacks and a sense of humor! Laptops optional. We will have Wi-Fi available. 

Andrea McCarren

ANDREA MCCARREN’s reporting has been honored with 22 Emmy Awards, three Edward R. Murrows, and national honors from both Investigative Reporters and Editors and the Robert F. Kennedy Foundation. In 2018, she was recognized with a national Gracie Award for her reporting on rape in the military.

In 2006, Andrea was awarded the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard University, where she developed and taught the first multimedia journalism courses in Harvard history. In 2015, she was named a Kiplinger Fellow in Public Affairs Journalism at Ohio State University. Andrea is currently an investigative reporter and producer for WUSA9’s Special Assignment Unit. Her career includes covering the Clinton White House for ABC News, where she traveled weekly with the President on Air Force One. Andrea has served as a DC-based correspondent for NBC News, and has been a local reporter and news anchor in Miami, Portland, Oregon, Wichita, and Savannah. She began her journalism career as a researcher for CBS News in London.

Andrea has a passion for covering veterans’ issues and is proud to be raising her second service dog. Her first service dog was placed with a wounded warrior who lost both legs serving our country in Afghanistan. Her current service dog in training, Nigel, accompanies her on every news assignment and to frequent speaking engagements. 

Andrea is a cum laude anthropology graduate of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York and the London School of Economics in England. She was honored with the KCBS-TV Fellowship for graduate study at the University of Southern California School of Journalism.
