Overview

Since launching in 2015, we’ve recognized the desire among our community members to explore further art education opportunities beyond our direct program offerings. However, we also understand that not everyone has the financial capacity to cover the costs associated with art classes and workshops. In recognition of this need, we are piloting a $10,000 scholarship fund in 2018 exclusively for veterans, service members, military families, and caregivers interested in art education opportunities. The primary purpose of this fund is to increase long-term artistic access among alumni of ASAP programs by providing need-based financial support for art education activities. We hope to continually broaden this fund to serve all veterans, service members, military families, and caregivers in need of financial support to engage in the arts -- regardless of whether they have graduated from our programs. Should you be interested in applying for a scholarship, we ask you to thoroughly review the sections below to learn about our eligibility criteria, evaluation process, and application instructions.

Eligibility

Am I eligible to receive funding? All veterans, service members (active, reserve, National Guard), immediate family members of service members or veterans, and caregivers are eligible to apply for scholarship support. However, preference will be given to individuals who have participated in ASAP’s classes, workshops, and/or performances. For this calendar year, the scholarship will only be open to individual applicants, not groups.

What types of arts opportunities will the scholarship fund cover? Scholarship funds will only be provided in support of art education opportunities. This includes classes, workshops, seminars, intensives, retreats, and individual lessons. For the purposes of the scholarship fund, we broadly define the arts as the performing arts, visual arts, literary arts, musical arts, and comedic arts.

What types of costs will the scholarship fund cover? Scholarship funding can only be used for the direct costs associated with an art education opportunity. We will consider tuition assistance, travel costs, and art supply expenses, though preference will be given to individuals in need of tuition assistance.

How often can I receive scholarship funding? Individuals are only able to receive scholarship funding once per year. Once a recipient receives funding, they are not eligible to apply again until the next calendar year.

How much financial support can I receive per year? We will consider requests for partial and full funding support. However, the maximum amount of scholarship funds for which an individual can apply and receive is $500 per year.

Will I have to report back on my use of scholarship funds? Yes. If you receive scholarship funding, you will be required to submit a scholarship report detailing your experience, and receipts for all scholarship-related expenses within four weeks of completing your desired program.
