"What's Next?" A Veterans Storytelling and Reading Open Mic

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is excited to host “What’s Next? A Veterans Storytelling and Reading Open Mic” in partnership with Dog Tag Bakery. When faced with transitions and periods of uncertainty when the path forward is unclear, we often ask ourselves "what's next?" While these moments can be scary, they often become transformational. Please join us to hear from veteran storytellers and writers as they share the "what's next" moments in their lives - and share with us the very best of themselves.

When & Where: This show will take place at Dog Tag Bakery (3206 Grace St. NW, Washington, DC 20007) on Thursday, October 18 at 7 PM. Doors will open at 6:30 PM.

Tickets: Tickets for this show can be reserved now for $10, or can be purchased at the door for $15. All proceeds will go directly to support ASAP and its programs.

This event will bring together some of the funniest members of the military community in a great new venue provided by Team Red White and Blue. Happy Hour and Veterans Comedy Show @ Up Top Acres

ASAP is partnering with Up Top Acres for an evening of drinks and entertainment! While Up Top Acres provides the rooftop and beautiful views of DC, ASAP will be providing the comics. Come check out ASAP Comedy Bootcamp instructors, Haywood Turnipseed, Michael Garvey, and Monica Welham, as they bring the laughs and the fun. There's no better place to bring your pals and get the weekend started off right. Beer and wine will be available for purchase, and feel free to bring your own snacks.

When and Where: This show will take place on Friday, September 21 and doors will open at 5:00 PM. The show runs from 6:30 - 8:00 PM, and the rooftop and happy hour specials will last until 9:00 PM! The rooftop is located at The Farm at 55 M Street (55 M Street SE Washington, DC).

Service to Stage: A Storytelling Event

The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP), in partnership with Vets for American Ideals and Service Year, will be hosting a storytelling show on National Day of Service and Remembrance, featuring military veterans, Service Year alumni, and Iraqi and Afghan wartime allies. We hope you join us to hear these powerful stories of service and hope.

This unique night of storytelling will feature seven different perspectives of service, including three veterans, two service year alumni, and two of our wartime allies (Special Immigrant Visa recipients) from Iraq and Afghanistan. Service happens in many ways, shapes, and forms, but we will hear how it creates a common outcome to challenge, inspire, and transform.

When & Where: The show will take place Tuesday, September 11th at DC Improv (1140 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20036). Doors will open at 6:30 PM and the show will run from 7:30 - 9:30 PM.

But if you missed out, fear not - Up Top Acres and the Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) are joining forces once more to host another special Veterans Comedy Show at one of Up Top's rooftop farms. This performance will feature comedians who have graduated from ASAP's Comedy Bootcamp program, the first stand-up comedy class in the country for veterans. The event will provide a platform for veteran comedians to showcase their talents and tell their hilarious stories in front of members of the DC community. Combat to Comedy: A Veterans Comedy Show

Overview: The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) is excited to host Combat to Comedy, our third annual veterans comedy show at NYC's iconic Gotham Comedy Club. The performance will feature Roy Wood Jr., Janeane GarofaloSeth Herzog, and Benari Poulten (Army), as well as Maria Batdorff (Navy), Michael Carrasquillo (Army), and Meg Mitcham (Army) -- all veterans who have graduated from ASAP's Comedy Bootcamp course. The performance culminates with a panel, where comics discuss their military experience and the impact that comedy has had on their lives. The purpose of the event is to afford our comics the opportunity to perform at one of New York’s top comedy clubs, generate awareness of the arts impact on veterans' transition into civilian life, and raise significant funds to support our arts programs for veterans, service members, and their families. 

When & Where: Wednesday, June 20th at 7:00PM at Gotham Comedy Club (208 W. 23rd St., New York, NY). The pre-show reception for VIP Admission ticket holders will begin at 6PM, and doors will open for General Admission ticket holders at 6:30PM.

General Admission Tickets: General Admission tickets are $50, and are available for purchase online and at the door. Please note that ticketed guests are required to purchase a minimum of two drinks at the comedy club. 

VIP Admission Tickets: VIP Admission tickets are $200 and are only available online. These tickets include admission to a pre-show reception with passed hors d'oeuvres and unlimited drinks, as well as unlimited free drinks throughout the show. Proceeds from General and VIP ticket sales will directly benefit ASAP, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit.

Overview: The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and Howard County Veterans Foundation are teaming up to host a special comedy show featuring veterans, service members, and military family members from DC Metro Area. The event will raise funds for the design and construction of the Howard County Veterans Monument, as well as ASAP's programming. Join us for an evening of laughter, brews, and fun in support of two great causes. 

When & Where: The show is set for Sunday, March 4th at Hysteria Brewing Company (9570 Berger Rd Suite J, Columbia, MD). Doors will open at 7:00PM and the event will begin at 7:30PM sharp. 

Tickets: General Admission tickets, which include admission to the show and a brewery tour, are $20. VIP Admission tickets are $50 and include a brewery tour, food ticket, one free beer, and a souvenir pint glass. Proceeds from ticket sales will directly support the Howard County Veterans Foundation and ASAP.

Overview: Veteran comics and storytellers reflect on the rewards and absurdities of military service and civilian life. The performance features graduates of the Armed Services Arts Partnership’s Comedy Bootcamp and Storytelling 101. This performance will be followed by a panel discussion on humor, narrative, and the military experience.

Content information: Swearing or coarse language – rare or mild, Violence – frequent or intense, Graphic medical imagery – rare or mild. Best suited to ages 18 or older.

Overview: The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and Virginia Beer Company (VBC) are excited to continue with our open mic series featuring veterans, service members, and military family members from the Greater Richmond and Hampton Roads Areas. This month's open mic will be focused on musical performances and stand up comedy, and will provide a platform for veteran artists to showcase their talents, express themselves, and have their voices heard in front of members of the local community. This is an opportunity for the civilian and military world to connect through comedy, dispel stereotypes and misnomers, and engage in an honest dialogue about the veteran, military, and human experience.  If you are a veteran, service member, military family member, or caregiver interested in performing, please complete this interest form

Overview: The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) and Dog Tag Bakery are excited to continue with our first open mic for veterans, service members, and military family members of 2018. This month's open mic will be focused exclusively on storytelling, creative writing, and music. It will provide a platform for veteran artists to showcase their talents, express themselves, and have their voices heard in front of members of the local community. If you are a veteran, service member, military family member, or caregiver interested in performing, please complete this interest form

This is an opportunity for the civilian and military world to connect through the arts, dispel stereotypes and misnomers, and engage in an honest dialogue about the veteran, military, and human experience -- all while enjoying delicious baked goodies and coffee. 

When & Where: The open mic is set for Thursday, February 15th at Dog Tag Bakery (3206 Grace Street Northwest, Washington, DC). Doors will open at 6:30PM and the event will begin at 7PM.

This open mic will be open to all types of performers – from comics to storytellers to musicians – and it will provide a platform for veteran artists to showcase their talents, express themselves, and have their voices heard in front of members of the local community. We invite all veterans, service members, military families, and caregivers to apply to perform or read their work. For anyone interested in registering to perform, please fill out this form.
