Operations & Communications Coordinator
The Armed Services Arts Partnership (ASAP) empowers veterans, service members, and military family members to find a voice and thrive in their communities through arts classes and performances. ASAP promotes artistic expression, skill-development, and camaraderie through seven- to ten-week classes in stand-up comedy, improv, creative writing, and music. ASAP then partners with local colleges, arts organizations, and performance venues to offer its graduates continuous opportunities for artistic and personal growth. In the process, ASAP provides participants with transferable life skills, a renewed sense of purpose, and healing benefits, and strengthens ties between veterans and their communities through the arts. This year, ASAP served 328 veterans, service members, and military family members, who, collectively have delivered more than 250 performances for over 15,000 audience members. The organization has been featured on CNN, ABC, BBC, the Washington Post, and NPR, and is the subject of a documentary from PBS.
The Operations & Communications Coordinator will be integral in ensuring that ASAP’s daily, monthly, and yearly operational and communications activities are as effective as possible. To that end, s/he will be required to be a jack-of-all-trades - one who diligently completes work while constantly prioritizing her/his efforts across a variety of important responsibilities. The ideal candidate is a creative, entrepreneurial, and flexible individual who is relentlessly dedicated to the arts, supporting veterans’ transition home, and building a start-up from the ground floor. The role will initially be based in Washington, D.C. Qualified applicants must be willing and able to work full-time, including weekends and evenings for programs and performances.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Support the Executive Director in his day-to-day responsibilities, including but not limited to the management of calendars, e-mails, meetings, documents and files, payments and invoices, and travel
Assist in the development and management of the organization’s day-to-day, short-term, and long-term internal operating activities
Help plan, design, create, execute, and manage the organization’s official communications and marketing efforts, including but not limited to e-mail marketing, digital marketing, social media, e-mail, press and the website
Support the leadership team in the cultivation and stewardship of private donors; assist with research and outreach for corporate, foundation, and partnership relationships
- Perform all additional tasks at the request and discretion of the Executive Director
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Bachelor’s degree required
Preferred experience in administration, calendar and meeting management, document organization and filing, mail management, event planning and management, copywriting, social media and e-mail marketing
Preferred interest in the arts, education, community engagement, veterans affairs, or health
Ability to operate, prioritize, and thrive in a high-growth, start-up environment; intellectually curious and driven to develop skills in areas in which s/he may be deficient; high tolerance for stress and ambiguity
Highly organized with a superior attention to detail; strong written and verbal communications skills; open to receiving and willing to deliver constructive feedback; ability to manage time and work effectively, efficiently, and autonomously; flexible in the face of evolving needs and demands
Intellectually curious and entrepreneurial; good sense of humor and a willingness to pitch in where needed
Mandatory proficiency in: Microsoft Office Suite; Google Drive, Calendar, Documents, Sheets, and Forms; and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn
Preferred proficiency in: event management platforms; e-mail marketing software; Squarespace website development tools; Slack and task management software; and CRM platforms
